I removed all the original brass light fixtures. The previous owner had installed LED bulbs in some of the fixtures, but there were still a few incandescent bulbs and a couple fluorescent ones as well. I opted to go with larger 5" fixtures, to gain some more light. Additionally, they have both White and Red illumination. Lastly, instead of brass, like the original, I went with the chrome fixtures. This was purely price driven. The brass version of the same fixture was about $50 more expensive.
The inspection plate was inaccessible from the original hatch. I had planned to cut in a larger hatch, but a friend (Tom) suggested a deck plate. So I found a nice, bronze deck plate ($800), and fitted it in. It was a great idea and works perfectly!! Plus, i was about 1/4 the price to have the shipwright do it. I think it worked out great!
